Is the Fifth Element a Cult Classic?

I ran into a forum from 2002 asking why the fifth element isn't a cult classic. In 2002, I would have said it wasnt really old enough, but is it the age of these types of films that make them cult? Not really. No.

My favourite cult classics are Logans Run, Soylent Green, A Clockwrk Orange and the Time Machine. I love 60s/70s Sci Fi but I also love Brazil and the Evil Dead Trilogy which aren't really as old.

So what makes it cult? and what makes it classic?

The Fifth Element divided critics and it is hailed as either the best or the worst film ever made by those that saw it back in 1997.

The Wiki describes a cult classic as:
A cult film, also commonly referred to as a cult classic, is a film with a cult following, obscure or unpopular with mainstream audiences, and often revolutionary or ironically enjoyed.

The Fifth Element most certainly has a cult following, you will meet so many people who hate this film and really don't get it and so many who hail it as the best film they have every seen. I am one of those people. The Fifth Element still tops my best films list.

So whats to love:

1. Well there is the Diva Song

2. Chris Tuckers ridiculously comic performance
All that squealing!!

3. Bruce Willis wearing an ORANGE vest!!

4.Cool AF Costumes

5 . An Amazing Soundtrack

Incredibly all the things we love about this film are the things others call weird and hate about the film. That to me is what makes it cult. When you find that handful of people that love it as much as you do. The fifth element definitely has that cult following

The Fifth Element Do you love it or hate it?
